Seel is a Water-type Pokémon introduced in Generation I. It is a pinniped Pokémon with a thick hide covered in bluish-white fur. Seel has a pale tan canine maw with a large red tongue and a pair of tusks on its lower jaw. It has circular eyes, prominent black eyebrows, and a black nose that can close when swimming. A small horn on its forehead is used in combination with its tusks to bore through ice floes. Seel has two flippers on its chest and two more on the end of its tail.

This Pokémon thrives in frigid environments, becoming more active as temperatures drop. It can swim in waters as cold as -40° Fahrenheit (-40° Celsius) thanks to its warm fur and thick hide. Seel is known for its graceful swimming but struggles to move on dry land. It prefers to sleep during the day and hunts for prey under sheets of ice in the late day and evening hours.

Evolutions

Seel evolves into Dewgong at level 34.

Habits

Seel is known to hunt for prey in frigid seas underneath sheets of ice. When it needs to breathe, it punches a hole through the ice using the sharply protruding section of its head. It is often found asleep on the seabed in shallow waters during the daytime.

Additions Across Generations

In Generation 3, Seel did not have the Hydration ability. Its Ice Body hidden ability was introduced later. In Generation 1, Seel had a base Special stat of 70, which was later split into Special Attack and Special Defense. The base experience yield for Seel has also changed over generations, starting at 100 in earlier games and later being adjusted to 65.
