Marill is a Water/Fairy-type Pokémon introduced in Generation 2. It is known as the Aqua Mouse Pokémon and is characterized by its round, blue body and large, bubble-like tail. The tail acts as a flotation device, filled with oil that is lighter than water, allowing Marill to stay afloat even in strong currents. Marill's body is covered with water-repellent fur, enabling it to swim at high speeds without being slowed by water resistance. This fur also dries quickly when Marill leaves the water, keeping it from getting cold.
Marill is known for its ability to use its tail in various ways. It can wrap its flexible tail around tree trunks when fishing at the edge of fast-running streams. The tail can also glow when Marill attacks, and in some instances, Marill has been observed bouncing on its tail. Marill feeds on aquatic plants and can dive underwater to search for food, with its tail bobbing on the surface as an indicator of its location.

- Gold: The tip of its tail, which contains oil that is lighter than water, lets it swim without drowning.
- Silver: The end of its tail serves as a buoy that keeps it from drowning, even in a vicious current.
- Ruby: Marill's oil-filled tail acts much like a life preserver. If you see just its tail bobbing on the water's surface, it's a sure indication that this Pokémon is diving beneath the water to feed on aquatic plants.
- Sword: This Pokémon uses its round tail as a float. The ball of Marill's tail is filled with nutrients that have been turned into an oil.
- Shield: Even after Marill swims in a cold sea, its water-repellent fur dries almost as soon as Marill leaves the water. That's why this Pokémon is never cold.
Evolutions
Marill evolves from Azurill (introduced in Generation 3) when leveled up with high friendship, and evolves into Azumarill at level 18.
Habits and Additions Across Generations
Marill was originally designed with a pink coloration in early game demos but was changed to blue for the final release. It gained the Fairy typing in Generation 6, along with its evolution line. Marill has appeared in various spin-off games and media, including as a summonable Pokémon in Super Smash Bros. Melee. In the anime, Marill has been featured as a companion Pokémon for the character Tracey Sketchit.
