Dewgong is a dual-type Water/Ice Pokémon introduced in Generation I. This graceful sea lion Pokémon is known for its snowy white, furry body that renders it virtually invisible in snowy conditions. Dewgong's streamlined form allows it to swim swiftly through frigid ocean waters at speeds of up to 8 knots, even in extremely cold and ice-packed environments. Its body is adapted to store thermal energy, enabling it to remain completely unharmed by intense freezing weather.

Dewgong possesses a sharp horn on top of its head, which it uses to cut through the thickest ice floes. It has two black eyes, a black nose, and two tusks extending from its upper jaw. Dewgong's long, flowing tail serves as a powerful propeller, enhancing its agility in the water. Interestingly, Dewgong becomes increasingly active as temperatures drop, thriving in colder climates.

This Pokémon has unique sleeping habits, often snoozing on bitterly cold ice or under shallow water during daylight hours. At night, when temperatures plummet, Dewgong transforms into an active hunter, searching for prey such as Wishiwashi. After feeding, it's known to sunbathe on beaches, which aids in digestion by raising its body temperature.

Evolution

Dewgong evolves from Seel starting at level 34.

Habits

Dewgong is known to live on icebergs adrift in frigid ocean waters. It's particularly active at night when temperatures are lowest, hunting for prey in the cold waters. During the day, it often rests on ice or in shallow waters. After meals, Dewgong has a unique habit of sunbathing on beaches to aid its digestion.

Additions Across Generations

In Generation 3, Dewgong gained the Hydration ability. Its hidden ability, Ice Body, was introduced in later generations, allowing it to gradually heal in hailstorms. The Pokémon's lore has been expanded over time, with newer Pokédex entries providing more details about its hunting habits and its mistaken identity as a mermaid in sailor folklore.
