Grimer is a Poison-type Pokémon introduced in Generation I. It is a slimy, amorphous creature born from sludge in polluted areas exposed to the moon's X-rays. Its body is made of a purple, toxic substance that constantly oozes bacteria-rich fluid, rendering soil barren and incapable of supporting plant life. Grimer feeds on filthy industrial waste and thrives in polluted environments, entering sewer pipes to drink wastewater.
As Grimer moves, pieces of its body often break off and develop into new Grimer, worsening the stench around it. When two Grimer combine, they create new poisonous compounds. Interestingly, Grimer's population has been decreasing in recent years due to improved wastewater treatment and reduced pollution, putting it at risk of extinction.
Grimer's sludgy and rubbery body can be forced through any opening, no matter how small. It lacks a solid form, allowing it to squeeze into various spaces with ease. In a sterile environment, the germs within Grimer's body cannot multiply, causing it to die. Grimer is part of an unofficial trio of Pokémon representing anthropomorphized pollution, alongside Koffing (air pollution) and Trubbish (land pollution).
