Ursaring is a formidable Normal-type Pokémon introduced in Generation II. Known as the Hibernator Pokémon, it stands at an impressive 1.8 meters (5'11") tall and weighs 125.8 kg (277.3 lbs). This bipedal, ursine creature is covered in brown fur, with a distinctive yellow ring on its chest resembling a new moon. Ursaring's powerful build and sharp claws make it an excellent climber, despite its preference for snapping trees to reach berries.

With its keen sense of smell, Ursaring can locate food buried deep underground and distinguish any aroma. This ability serves it well in its forest habitat, where it gathers food daily from streams and towering trees. During the cold season in Hisui, Ursaring becomes particularly ferocious as it wanders fields and mountains in search of its favorite berries.

Ursaring is known for its territorial behavior, often leaving scratch marks on trees bearing delicious fruits or berries. It's highly protective of its cubs and becomes more aggressive during mating season. Interestingly, Ursaring has been known to get into fights with Primeape when they encounter each other while searching for berries.

Habits and Additions Across Generations

Ursaring's representation has evolved across generations. Its claw count has varied, starting with four visible claws in its original artwork, then three in Generation II sprites, four again from Ruby/Sapphire to Platinum, and finally settling on five claws from HeartGold/SoulSilver onwards. In 3D games, animated series, and corporate art, it has consistently been depicted with five claws. The introduction of Ursaluna in Pokémon Legends: Arceus added a new dimension to Ursaring's evolutionary line, tying it to the unique environment and mechanics of the Hisui region.
