Raticate is a Normal-type Pokémon introduced in Generation I. It is known as the Mouse Pokémon and is the evolved form of Rattata. Raticate has a large, rodent-like appearance with tawny-colored fur and a cream underside. It has narrow black eyes, ears with ragged edges, and large incisors that grow constantly. Raticate's whiskers are essential for maintaining its balance, and it becomes angry if they are touched. Its webbed hind feet allow it to swim effectively, enabling it to cross rivers and sometimes even oceans.
In the wild, Raticate forms groups of Rattata, which it commands. Each group has its own territory, and disputes over food happen often. Raticate is known for its incredibly greedy personality, with its nest filled with food gathered by Rattata at its direction. It is particularly choosy about the taste and freshness of its food, and restaurants where Raticate live are said to have a good reputation.
Raticate's sturdy fangs grow steadily, requiring it to gnaw on hard objects like rocks and logs to keep them ground down. These powerful teeth can chew through cinder walls and even topple concrete buildings. In battle, Raticate can stand up on its hind legs, bare its fangs, and shriek in an intimidating manner to scare off enemies.

Habits and Additions Across Generations
In Alola, Raticate has a regional variant that is a dual-type Dark/Normal Pokémon. Alolan Raticate has become heavier and darker due to its urban environment and higher calorie diet. It uses its nest as a food stockpile and is more selective in what it eats, preferring fresh, high-quality foods. In some Alolan regions, Raticate acts as a Totem Pokémon for Ilima's trial in Verdant Cavern.
