Phanpy is a small, horizon-blue proboscid Pokémon that resembles a baby elephant. It has large, floppy ears which it uses as fans to cool itself when hot. There are two red pads on each ear and another on the bridge of its short, sensitive trunk. Phanpy has a single nail on each of its four feet and a short tail. Despite its compact size, it is incredibly strong and can easily carry an adult human on its back. Its trunk, while small, is powerful enough to send a person flying with an affectionate bump or even shatter arm bones if swung forcefully.
This Ground-type Pokémon was introduced in Generation II and is known as the Long Nose Pokémon. Phanpy is found in rocky terrain, often near riverbanks where it creates its nest. It digs a vertical pit at the edge of a river and marks the surrounding area with its trunk to claim ownership. In the early morning, Phanpy uses its trunk to shower in the river. Groups of Phanpy can sometimes be seen thoroughly dousing each other with water and then drying their soaking-wet bodies at the water's edge.

- Scarlet: This Pokémon lives and nests on a riverbank. After playing in the mud, it won't be able to settle down unless it washes its body.
- Violet: It is far stronger than it appears. If a Phanpy is swinging its trunk around and your arm gets hit by it, your arm bone will shatter.
