Omanyte is an ancient Pokémon that was resurrected from a fossil using modern science. This Rock and Water-type Pokémon resembles a small, extinct cephalopod mollusk similar to an ammonite or nautilus. It has a sky blue body with ten tentacles and a pale yellow, helix-spiraled shell on its back. Omanyte's shell has two circular indents where its large saucer-like eyes protrude. When threatened, it quickly withdraws into its hard shell for protection.

In prehistoric times, Omanyte inhabited ancient seas, feeding on plankton. It regulated its buoyancy by storing and releasing air within its shell and controlled direction by twisting its tentacles. Interestingly, Omanyte fossils have been found bearing bite marks from Archeops, suggesting it was preyed upon by this ancient bird Pokémon. Some Omanyte have managed to escape after being restored or have been released into the wild by people, causing this species to become a problem in some areas.

Pokédex Entries Across Versions

  • Sword: Because some Omanyte manage to escape after being restored or are released into the wild by people, this species is becoming a problem.
  • Shield: This Pokémon is a member of an ancient, extinct species. Omanyte paddles through water with its 10 tentacles, looking like it's just drifting along.
  • Ultra Sun: Omanyte lived in the seas of antiquity. Its fossils have been found bearing bite marks from Archeops, so apparently Archeops preyed on it.
  • Ultra Moon: It was restored from an ancient fossil. Those Helix Fossils are excavated from areas that were once oceans long, long ago.

Evolution

Omanyte evolves into Omastar starting at level 40.

Habits

Omanyte uses its ten tentacles to paddle through water, often appearing to drift along. When attacked or threatened, it quickly withdraws into its hard shell. In ancient times, it swam in primordial seas, using air stored in its shell to control buoyancy.
