Muk is a large, amorphous Pokémon made of living purple sludge. It has two small eyes with beady black pupils and an enormous mouth with a gray tongue. This Poison-type Pokémon is known for its incredibly foul odor, which can cause fainting and is considered a living biohazard. Muk's body produces a powerful stench that contains various toxic elements, causing plants to wilt and die when it passes by. Interestingly, some Muk enthusiasts believe its stench is actually a positive trait.

Muk's body contains over a hundred different types of poison, and the chemical reactions between these poisons are the source of its vitality. What appear to be fangs and claws on Muk are actually crystallized poison that can afflict others upon mere touch. The toxic fluid seeping from Muk's body is so potent that it can instantly kill plants and trees on contact. Even Muk's footprints contain poison, making it a dangerous Pokémon to encounter in the wild.

Despite its toxic nature, Muk plays an important role in ecosystems by consuming waste and refuse generated by people and Pokémon. However, recent environmental improvements have led to a decline in Muk populations, with some speculating that it may face extinction in the future. To prevent this, sludge ponds are being built to provide suitable habitats for Muk.

Evolutions

Muk evolves from Grimer at level 38.

Habits

Muk can be found in heavily polluted bodies of water, factories, and cities, where they gather to consume trash discarded by people. They love to congregate in smelly areas where sludge accumulates, further intensifying the stench around them. Muk's favorite food is anything repugnantly filthy, making it a common sight in dirty towns where littering is prevalent.

Additions Across Generations

In Generation 7, an Alolan form of Muk was introduced. Alolan Muk is a dual-type Poison/Dark Pokémon with a more vibrant, multi-colored appearance. This regional variant has different abilities, including Poison Touch, Gluttony, and Power of Alchemy (Hidden). The Alolan form's vivid coloration is attributed to the garbage it consumes, which causes continuous chemical changes in its body.
