Geodude is a Rock/Ground-type Pokémon introduced in Generation I. It resembles a living boulder with muscular arms, rocky eyebrows, and a wide mouth. Geodude is commonly found near mountain trails and fields, often mistaken for actual rocks by unsuspecting travelers. Its round body makes it easy to pick up, but it's deceptively heavy and dangerous to play with. Geodude uses its strong arms to climb steep mountain paths and can bury itself halfway into the ground when sleeping deeply.

As Geodude ages, its edges become more rounded due to wear and tear, but its heart remains hard and craggy. These Pokémon are known to compete with each other by bashing their bodies together to prove whose is harder. Interestingly, a scholar once counted a hundred Geodude along a single route, highlighting their abundance in certain areas.

Pokédex Entries Across Versions

  • Red/Blue: Found in fields and mountains. Mistaking them for boulders, people often step or trip on them.
  • Yellow: Commonly found near mountain trails, etc. If you step on one by accident, it gets angry.
  • Gold: Most people may not notice, but a closer look should reveal that there are many Geodude around.
  • Ruby: The longer a Geodude lives, the more its edges are chipped and worn away, making it more rounded in appearance. However, this Pokémon's heart will remain hard, craggy, and rough always.
  • Diamond: Many live on mountain trails and remain half buried while keeping an eye on climbers.
  • Black/White: At rest, it looks just like a rock. Carelessly stepping on it will make it swing its fists angrily.
  • Sun: Its round body makes it easy to pick up, but it is hard and heavy. It's dangerous to play with them as if they were snowballs.

Evolutions

Geodude evolves into Graveler at level 25, which then evolves into Golem when traded.

Habits and Additions Across Generations

In Generation VII, an Alolan form of Geodude was introduced. This variant is a Rock/Electric-type with a more silvery appearance and magnetic properties. Alolan Geodude's body attracts iron sand, giving it the appearance of eyebrows and hair. Stepping on an Alolan Geodude results in an electrical shock and sometimes an angry headbutt. The Alolan form also has different abilities: Magnet Pull, Sturdy, and Galvanize (Hidden).
