Venonat is a dual-type Bug/Poison Pokémon introduced in Generation I. This insect Pokémon has a spherical body covered in purple fur that releases a toxic liquid when shaken violently. Its most prominent features are its large, red compound eyes that act as radar units, allowing it to be active in darkness and even shoot powerful beams. Venonat's eyes are actually clusters of many tiny eyes, which enable it to spot even minuscule prey.
This Pokémon is nocturnal, sleeping in tree holes during the day and emerging at night to feed on small insects that are attracted to light. Venonat's highly developed eyes and toxic fur have evolved as protective adaptations, helping it survive in its forest habitat. Interestingly, Venonat's dual typing as both Bug and Poison creates a unique situation where it should be strong against Psychic opponents (as a Bug-type) but is also weak to Psychic attacks (due to its Poison typing).

Venonat and its evolved form went the longest without appearing in a regional Pokédex (excluding remakes), with their last appearance being in Crystal until their inclusion in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, almost 22 years later.
