Quilava is a Fire-type Pokémon introduced in Generation II. It is the evolved form of Cyndaquil and the pre-evolved form of Typhlosion. Known as the Volcano Pokémon, Quilava is a quadrupedal creature with a long and slender body. Its top half is dark blue-green, while its underside is cream-colored. Quilava has five red spots on its body that can project flames: two on its forehead and three on its rear.
One of Quilava's most remarkable features is its non-flammable fur, which protects it from fire attacks. Before battle, Quilava turns its back to its opponent, demonstrating the intensity of its flames. It uses these flames in combination with gusts of superheated air to keep foes at bay. Quilava's outstanding nimbleness allows it to dodge attacks while simultaneously scorching opponents.
In the Hisui region, Quilava's evolution is altered when exposed to the mysterious energy of Mount Coronet, causing it to gain the Ghost type as it becomes Hisuian Typhlosion. Interestingly, Quilava shares its category of Volcano Pokémon with its evolved form Typhlosion and the legendary Pokémon Entei.

Evolutions
Quilava evolves from Cyndaquil at level 14 (or level 17 in Legends: Arceus) and evolves into Typhlosion at level 36. In the Hisui region, it evolves into Hisuian Typhlosion at level 36.
Habits and Additions Across Generations
Quilava tends to be rare in the wild but can sometimes be found living on grasslands. In Pokémon Sleep, it's mentioned that Quilava's flames on its back blaze brightly while it sleeps. The naming of Quilava has an interesting backstory: Jeff Kalles, who assisted in naming many Generation II Pokémon, suggested the English name for Quilava because Nintendo and The Pokémon Company wanted a Pokémon for every letter of the alphabet.
