Ponyta is a Fire-type Pokémon introduced in Generation I. It resembles a cream-colored foal with a fiery mane and tail that ignite about an hour after birth. These flames are harmless to those the Ponyta trusts. Ponyta's legs are incredibly powerful, allowing it to clear Ayers Rock in a single leap. Its hooves are said to be ten times harder than diamonds, enabling it to trample anything flat in little time.
As a newborn, Ponyta is very weak and can barely stand. However, it quickly develops strength by stumbling and falling while trying to keep up with its parents. Ponyta lives in herds on grasslands, where newborn foals practice galloping to toughen their legs. Despite its fiery appearance, Ponyta has a gentle nature and is known to be very weak at birth.
In the Galar region, Ponyta has a unique regional form. Galarian Ponyta is a Psychic-type Pokémon with a pastel-colored mane instead of flames. This form is said to have developed due to exposure to the overflowing life energy of the Glimwood Tangle forest over many generations. Galarian Ponyta possesses the ability to heal slight wounds with a few rubs of its small horn and can read the contents of a person's heart by looking into their eyes.
