Pidgey is a small, plump-bodied avian Pokémon introduced in Generation I. It is primarily brown with a cream-colored face, underside, and flight feathers. On top of its head is a short crest of three tufts. Pidgey has an extremely sharp sense of direction and homing instincts, capable of unerringly returning to its nest regardless of how far it has flown. It is a docile Pokémon that prefers to avoid conflict, often kicking up sand to protect itself rather than fighting back. Pidgey is common throughout its range and can often be seen in meadows and temperate forests.
Flapping its wings rapidly, Pidgey can whip up dust clouds and create whirlwinds to protect itself and flush out potential prey. It is known as the Tiny Bird Pokémon and shares this category with Spearow, Natu, and Rookidee. Interestingly, Pidgey has the shortest cry of any Pokémon, being only 0.181 seconds long. In the anime series, Pidgey is often erroneously depicted with four talons on each foot, as opposed to the correct three.

Evolutions
Pidgey evolves into Pidgeotto at level 18, which then evolves into Pidgeot at level 36.
Habits
Pidgey is known for its docile nature and preference to avoid conflict. When disturbed, it can ferociously strike back. It often hides in tall grass, foraging for food such as small bugs. Pidgey has an extremely sharp sense of direction, allowing it to return to its nest from great distances.
Additions Across Generations
In Generation III, Feather Dance became Pidgey's signature move, though other Pokémon could still inherit it via breeding. The addition of abilities in Generation III gave Pidgey Keen Eye and Tangled Feet, with Big Pecks added as its hidden ability in later generations. Pidgey's base friendship value changed from 50 in Generation I to 70 in later generations.
