Ninetales is a majestic Fire-type Pokémon introduced in Generation I. Known as the Fox Pokémon, it evolves from Vulpix when exposed to a Fire Stone. Ninetales is renowned for its intelligence and vengeful nature, with legends claiming that grabbing one of its nine tails could result in a 1,000-year curse. Each of its nine tails is said to be imbued with supernatural powers, allowing it to live for up to a millennium. Ninetales possesses the ability to understand human speech and can even use its bright red eyes to cast a sinister light, gaining control over its foe's mind.
In Alola, Ninetales has a regional variant that is an Ice/Fairy-type, evolving from Alolan Vulpix when exposed to an Ice Stone. This Alolan form was revered as a deity incarnate in ancient times due to its calm demeanor and association with snowy mountains. Both forms of Ninetales have received positive reception for their design and usability in gameplay.

Vulpix evolves into Ninetales when exposed to a Fire Stone. Alolan Vulpix evolves into Alolan Ninetales when exposed to an Ice Stone.
Habits
Ninetales is known for its intelligence and ability to understand human speech. It is said to be very vengeful, capable of casting curses on those who mistreat it. Alolan Ninetales is known to guide lost travelers down snowy mountains, but it won't forgive anyone who harms nature.
Additions Across Generations
In Generation VII, Ninetales received its Alolan form, changing its type to Ice/Fairy. This regional variant was introduced in Pokémon Sun and Moon, adding new lore and abilities to the Pokémon. The addition of Mega Evolution and Dynamax capabilities in later generations has not affected Ninetales, as it does not have a Mega Evolution form and can only Dynamax, not Gigantamax.
