Mantine is a large, ray-like Pokémon with a dual Water/Flying type. It has a dark blue body on the overside, with large wing-like fins featuring black ring-shaped marks. Its head has two long protrusions resembling horns or antennae. Mantine is known for its graceful swimming and ability to leap out of the water, sometimes being mistaken for a bird Pokémon. It can breach up to 300 feet (100 meters) into the air if it builds up enough speed. Mantine often swims in schools, racing one another in open seas.
In the Alola region, Mantine has become an icon, with many surfers riding waves and traveling between islands on their backs. This has made it a popular feature on souvenir postcards and posters. Mantine has a docile nature and is often seen with Remoraid attached to the underside of its fins, forming a symbiotic relationship where the Remoraid scavenges for leftovers and fights alongside Mantine when attacked.
