Magcargo is a dual-type Fire/Rock Pokémon introduced in Generation II. This unique Pokémon is known for its incredibly high body temperature, which is approximately 18,000 degrees Fahrenheit (10,000 degrees Celsius). Magcargo's body consists almost entirely of bright red magma, protected by a gray, spherical shell made of hardened, brittle magma. Its shell is actually its skin that has cooled and hardened, forming irregular lumps and plates.

Interestingly, Magcargo's shell is so fragile that even a slight touch can cause it to crumble apart. However, the Pokémon can easily reform its body by dipping itself in magma. Flames occasionally burst from gaps in its shell, and a streak of fire can be seen leaking from the side. When caught in the rain, the water instantly vaporizes on contact with Magcargo's body, creating a thick fog that surrounds the area.

Magcargo has been living in volcano craters for tens of thousands of years, which has contributed to its body becoming magma-like. According to folklore, a sudden increase in the wild Magcargo population is believed to herald a volcanic eruption.
