Lugia is a powerful Legendary Pokémon introduced in Generation II, known as the guardian of the seas. This Psychic/Flying-type creature is often associated with the ocean, despite not being a Water-type. Lugia's immense power allows it to control the weather, capable of creating or calming storms with just a flap of its wings. Due to its incredible strength, Lugia chooses to live in solitude deep under the sea to avoid causing unintentional damage to the world around it.

Interestingly, Lugia is one of the few Legendary Pokémon known to have offspring, as seen in the anime where a baby Lugia named Silver appeared. This suggests that Lugia may have the ability to breed, unlike most Legendary Pokémon. Lugia serves as the leader of the Legendary Birds trio and is often called upon to quell their fighting.

Lugia's design is believed to be inspired by the Plesiosaurus, a marine reptile from the Cretaceous period. Its name might be derived from the Latin "lue gale," meaning "to lie dormant," which aligns with its habit of remaining hidden in the ocean depths.
