Girafarig is a unique dual-type Normal/Psychic Pokémon introduced in Generation II. This peculiar creature resembles a giraffe with a second head on its tail, giving it a palindromic appearance that matches its name. The tail's head, though smaller, possesses its own brain and set of sharp teeth, allowing it to attack independently based on smell and sound stimuli. This defensive mechanism helps protect Girafarig from predators approaching from behind. Interestingly, while the main head sleeps, the tail's head remains vigilant, providing constant surveillance of its surroundings. Girafarig's psychic abilities are channeled through both heads, with the tail capable of emitting powerful psychic energy despite its small size. In the wild, these Pokémon inhabit savannas and grasslands, where they feed on local plant life.

Pokédex Entries Across Versions

  • Silver: Its tail, which also contains a small brain, may bite on its own if it notices an alluring smell.
  • Crystal: When it is in danger, its tail uses some sort of mysterious powers to drive away the enemy.
  • Ruby/Sapphire: Girafarig's rear head also has a brain, but it is small. The rear head attacks in response to smells and sounds. Approaching this Pokémon from behind can cause the rear head to suddenly lash out and bite.
  • Scarlet: Though very small, the brain in its tail is still considered an important organ because it emits powerful psychic energy.
  • Violet: Girafarig's tail has a small head. It instinctively bites at any foe that approaches the Pokémon from behind.

Evolutions

Girafarig evolves into Farigiraf when leveled up while knowing Twin Beam.

Habits

Girafarig is known to use its tail head to keep watch while sleeping, as the tail doesn't require sleep. It feeds on plant life in its grassland habitat. The Pokémon's dual heads allow it to be constantly aware of its surroundings, making it difficult to sneak up on.

Additions Across Generations

In earlier generations, Girafarig had a base experience yield of 149 and a base Friendship value of 70. Its design has remained largely consistent since its introduction, but its evolution, Farigiraf, was introduced in later generations. Girafarig can Mega Evolve into Mega Girafarig using the Etigirafarigite in some game versions.
