Cyndaquil is a small, bipedal Fire-type Pokémon introduced in Generation II. It is known as the Fire Mouse Pokémon, despite having features that resemble various small mammals such as echidnas, shrews, and badgers. Cyndaquil's most distinctive feature is the set of four red spots on its back that can erupt into flames when it feels threatened or angry. These flames serve as both a defensive mechanism and a way to express its emotions.
When calm, Cyndaquil's flames are extinguished, revealing the four "burners" on its back. It is generally timid by nature and often curls into a ball when intimidated, which has led to its reputation for being shy and cautious. Cyndaquil's eyes are usually seen closed, adding to its endearing appearance.
Cyndaquil's firepower is described as tremendously powerful, especially when it is angry or defensive. However, if it becomes tired, the flames may not burn as effectively. In the wild, Cyndaquil can be found living on grasslands, though it is considered rare. Interestingly, Cyndaquil is known to usually sleep curled up, occasionally spouting flames from its back while sleeping.

In the anime, it has been featured as a companion to main characters, often staying in its base form for extended periods due to its marketable cuteness.
