Chinchou is a dual Water/Electric-type Pokémon introduced in Generation II. This small, piscine creature has a round, blue body with large yellow eyes featuring plus-shaped pupils. Its most distinctive features are the pair of antenna-like appendages that curve over its head, each tipped with a yellow, teardrop-shaped orb. These antennae, which evolved from fins, contain electricity-generating cells that produce such strong electrical power that they make Chinchou tingle slightly.

Living in the depths of the ocean beyond the reach of sunlight, Chinchou uses its bioluminescent capabilities for both hunting and communication. It lures prey with the soft glow from its antennae and uses flashing patterns to exchange signals with others of its kind. Chinchou can discharge positive and negative electricity from its antenna tips to stun prey or defend itself. This unique ability to manipulate electricity makes it a formidable predator in its dark underwater habitat.

Evolutions

Chinchou evolves into Lanturn at level 27.

Habits

Chinchou is known to inhabit the deep, dark areas of the ocean. It uses its glowing antennae to lure prey and communicate with others of its kind. These Pokémon are also known to be useful for night fishing due to their bioluminescent properties. Chinchou can walk on land, although it is rarely seen doing so and is primarily found in aquatic environments.

Additions Across Generations

Chinchou has remained relatively consistent across generations, with minor adjustments to its base stats and available moves. In Generation VI, it gained access to the Dazzling Gleam move via TM. The introduction of the Fairy type in Generation VI did not affect Chinchou directly, but it did impact its evolved form, Lanturn, in terms of type matchups.
