Typhlosion is a Fire-type Pokémon introduced in Generation II. It is the final evolution of Cyndaquil, evolving from Quilava at level 36. Typhlosion is a bulky mammalian Pokémon with a long, agile body, classified as a quadruped but capable of bipedal movement. Most of its body is cream-colored, with a dark green-blue back and top of its head. It has a short, rounded snout and small, triangular eyes and ears.

Across the back of Typhlosion's neck are several red spots that can produce fire. When angered, Typhlosion can make anything go up in flames and compose explosions by rubbing its fur together. The heat it generates when ready for battle creates a shimmering haze that can also be used to hide itself. Typhlosion is known for its "secret, devastating move" where it rubs its blazing fur together to cause huge explosions.

In Pokémon Legends: Arceus, Typhlosion received a new regional variant called Hisuian Typhlosion, which is a dual Fire/Ghost-type. This form has been well-received, with praise given to its design and discussion about its gender presentation.

Habits and Additions Across Generations

Typhlosion is rare in the wild but can be found living on grasslands. In Pokémon Legends: Arceus, Hisuian Typhlosion was introduced, adding the Ghost-type to its typing. This form is said to be able to produce ghost-fire called tanuki-bi, resembling will-o-wisps, which may be based on the mythological tanuki and mujina. Typhlosion's design has remained largely consistent across generations, with its most significant change being the introduction of its Hisuian form.
