Slowking is a Water/Psychic-type Pokémon introduced in Generation II. It is an alternate evolution of Slowpoke, occurring when Slowpoke is traded while holding a King's Rock. Slowking is known for its exceptional intelligence, which is said to rival that of human scientists. This intelligence boost is attributed to the Shellder that bites its head during evolution, releasing toxins that unlock extraordinary mental capabilities.

Unlike its pre-evolution, Slowking is bipedal and wears a Shellder on its head like a crown, earning it the moniker "the Royal Pokémon". Its intelligence allows it to remain calm and collected in any situation, often undertaking research to solve the mysteries of the world. However, if the Shellder on its head comes off, Slowking reportedly forgets everything it has learned.

In the Galar region, Slowking has a regional variant that is Poison/Psychic-type. This Galarian Slowking is known for creating strange potions by combining its internal toxins with what it has eaten, often while chanting mysterious spells.

Slowpoke evolves into Slowking when traded while holding a King's Rock. In the Galar region, Slowpoke evolves into Galarian Slowking when exposed to a Galarica Wreath.

Habits and Additions Across Generations

Slowking has been known to engage in battles of wits with Oranguru, often resulting in a draw. In Alola, it's referred to as "the sage of the sea". Slowking is said to constantly come up with new ideas that could change the world, but it tends to forget these ideas as soon as they occur. In Pokémon Sleep, it's mentioned that Slowking dreams of world-changing ideas while asleep, but forgets them upon waking.
