Sunkern is a small, seed-like Grass-type Pokémon introduced in Generation II. It resembles a yellow sunflower seed with a sprout growing from its top. Despite its cute appearance, Sunkern is known to be one of the weakest Pokémon in existence. It has a unique survival strategy, conserving energy by moving as little as possible and subsisting solely on morning dew. Interestingly, Sunkern may suddenly fall from the sky in the morning, though the reason for this phenomenon is unknown.

This Pokémon is highly sensitive to temperature changes. Following a cold summer, Sunkern populations have been known to explode the next year. When threatened, its only defense mechanism is to shake its leaves desperately at its attacker. Sunkern's weakness is offset by its remarkable ability to store nutrients for evolution, making it a prime example of a Pokémon that dramatically transforms when it evolves.
