Ho-Oh is a legendary Fire/Flying-type Pokémon introduced in Generation II. Known as the Rainbow Pokémon, Ho-Oh's feathers glow in seven colors depending on the angle at which they are struck by light. These feathers are said to bring happiness to those who possess them. Ho-Oh is believed to live at the foot of a rainbow and is capable of creating a rainbow as it flies. In ancient times, it was said to have perched atop the Bell Tower in Ecruteak City.

Ho-Oh plays a significant role in Pokémon lore, having resurrected three unnamed Pokémon into the Legendary Beasts after the burning of the Brass Tower 150 years ago. It is often viewed as the leader of these Legendary Beasts. Ho-Oh is also known for its ability to grant eternal happiness to those who see it. In the anime, Ho-Oh was the first Generation II Pokémon to appear, being spotted by Ash Ketchum at the end of the very first episode.

Interestingly, Ho-Oh's name is a palindrome and appears symmetrical when written in all-caps (HO-OH). It was also one of the first Pokémon conceptualized for Generation II, appearing in promotional materials years before the games' release.
