Unown is a mysterious Psychic-type Pokémon introduced in Generation II. It is known as the Symbol Pokémon due to its unique appearance resembling various letters of the alphabet and punctuation marks. There are 28 different forms of Unown, each corresponding to a letter (A-Z) or a punctuation mark (? and !). These enigmatic creatures are often found in ancient ruins and are believed to have a strong connection to ancient writing systems.

Unown possess the ability to communicate telepathically and can emit strange radio waves that can be detected by Pokégear devices. When gathered in large numbers, Unown are said to possess an odd power capable of warping reality to some extent. This ability was prominently featured in the third Pokémon movie, where a group of Unown created an alternate reality based on a young girl's wishes.

Researchers are divided on whether Unown predates or postdates written language, making their origin a subject of ongoing debate and study. Some theories suggest that Unown may have a connection to the legendary Pokémon Arceus, potentially playing a role in the creation of the Pokémon world.
