Dratini is a serpentine Dragon-type Pokémon introduced in Generation I. Known as the "Mirage Pokémon," it was long considered mythical until a small colony was discovered living underwater. Dratini can reach lengths of over 6 feet (1.8 meters) and is constantly growing due to its ever-increasing life energy. As it grows, Dratini sheds its skin regularly, sometimes almost daily. The shed skin is highly valued and can be tanned to create luxury boots.

Dratini dwells near bodies of rapidly flowing water, such as the plunge pools of waterfalls. It lives a quiet life underwater, eating any food that sinks to the bottom. The small lump on Dratini's forehead is actually a horn that's still developing. Dratini's existence was first confirmed by a fisherman who spent 10 hours attempting to capture it.

  • Yellow: The existence of this mythical Pokémon was only recently confirmed by a fisherman who caught one.

Evolutions

Dratini evolves into Dragonair at level 30, which then evolves into Dragonite at level 55.

Habits

Dratini continually molts and sloughs off its old skin because the life energy within its body steadily builds to reach uncontrollable levels. It hides behind rapid waterfalls during the molting process to protect its soft new skin.

Additions Across Generations

In Generation 2, Dratini and its evolved forms were the only known Pokémon capable of learning the move Outrage, though other Pokémon could inherit it via breeding. Its sleeping habits, once a mystery due to its rarity, have been well-documented in recent years, with four distinct sleep styles identified: Coiled Sleep, Wriggly Sleep, Uncoiled Sleep, and Atop-Belly Sleep.
